About the Author
Thomas Urrutia is a sophomore at the University of Maryland in the study of finance. While learning about finance and economics is Thomas's true passion, he has become increasingly interested in the phenomenon of conteptorary Islamism and Jihadism, and the West's response to it. Thomas has read many works by prominent scholars such as Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, and others to mold his interest into an argument.
Thomas hopes to bring more attention to both the problem of Islamism and jihadism and the dangers of many individuals' response to it. This digital remediation project is just one step in that direction.
About the Site
This site serves as the end of semester project for the University of Maryland's Introduction to Academic Writing class, instructed by Lyra Hilliard. This site has been made with the help of Weebly, its argument involves a condemnation of the reactions of many liberals and others to Islamic extremism and moderate outspoken Muslims. Rather than calling out violence, oppression, and suffering in the Muslim community, many people in the West seem to bend over backward apologizing for it, excusing it, and even ignoring it.
